How is inorganic phosphate created from water ????

ok so in respiration to make ATP ,you need Adp plus inorganic phosphate.And inorder to make this ATP the phosphate must be torn away from water molecules....please may someone explain how this works because i made terribley confused..please explain in relatively simple terms..thank you
