Why don't politicians attack the real reason for our economic woes, the US Trade Deficit?

Well trade deficits are a symptom as well. The problem is that America's goods are too expensive. That is what causes the trade deficit in the first place. The government is doing something about it, it's devaluing the dollar to make American goods more competitive on the global market.
