What character dance could I do?

If you are looking at ideas for a festival solo, then I strongly recommend that you avoid songs or pieces of music from current musicals in production, or very well known ones. Adjudicators do not like to see lots people all using the same ideas and music for their dances, and that often leads to them comparing people who do similar routines. Also remember that in character, the idea is to portray a story through the movement and narrative of the dance. For example, don't pick Harry Potter as the character and use a piece of music from the films if you're just going to do a pretty dance that doesn't really portray the character to the audience. It is very lazy and will not impress an adjudicator. Having said that, film characters can be good, perhaps Cruella de Vil, the wicked queen from Snow White, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, maybe even the Hunchback of Notre Dame! Whatever you choose make sure it is a character that you can easily portray through dance, and make sure that your routine tells a story to the audience.
